Thank you for writing a fic or creating art for me! Or considering it!

I enjoy a wide range of fic and art and encourage you to go wild with whatever inspires you. I've tried to include a few ideas/things I like for each of the fandoms I requested, but don't feel like you need to adhere to that.

( <a

Hello! This is my letter for Trick or Treat 2021.

First of all, I like all sorts of fic and art, so I'm really very open when it comes to content, ratings, warnings, and plots.

DNWs: Extreme underage (under ~14), trauma to teeth or eyes, non-powered/all human AUs.

Some general likes:

- Friendship

- Character studies and backstory

- Smut

- For porn, things I like include like anal sex/play, spanking, D/s and power play, slavefic, A/B/O, BDSM AUs, punishment, dub-con/non-con, humiliation, rimming, and watersports. I like both consensual and non-con/dub-con interpretations. Also, I'm cool with a lot of kinks written in a way that's not explicitly sexual, like spanking as non-sexualized punishment or A/B/O worldbuilding. I'm also happy with vanilla smut!

- Darkfic/art
- Incest/pseudo incest

- Humor and cracky premises

- Loyalty kink

- Pining (mutual or non-mutual)

- Enemies becoming friends/lovers, and perhaps dealing with remaining baggage.
- Hate!sex
- Complicated or conflicted family relationships.

- Bonding and unexpected friendships
- Alternate realities and travel between realities or universes.

- Ghosts, hauntings, and ghost stories

- I love Halloween, so if you want to do something Halloween-themed, I'm definitely game!

- I also like all sorts of narrative structures and POVs--epistolary fiction, second person, you name it.

Some specific likes for tricks:

- Body horror

- Tentacle monsters/tentacle rape

- Gaslighting/manipulation

- Mind control

- Frightening visions/hallucinations/apparitions (could be ghosts, hallucinations, telepathy, etc.)

- Characters not trusting their own perceptions/questioning reality

- Hauntings/ghosts

- Stockholm syndrome/Lima syndrome

- Imprisonment/slavery

X-Men (Alternate Timeline Movies)

Requested characters/ships:
Ship: Erik Lehnsherr/Hank McCoy
Ship: Hank McCoy/Charles Xavier
Ship: Erik Lehnsherr/Charles Xavier
Hank McCoy
Erik Lensherr
Charles Xavier)
Ship: Emma Frost/Erik Lehnsherr

Some prompts/things I like:

- I enjoy both canon-compliant fic and AUs, though I prefer still-powered AUs.

- Anything related to the school. Maybe Charles and Hank running the school together, or one or both of them interacting with students in general. Or Jean studying under Charles or learning to control her powers. If you want to go with a Halloween theme, maybe the students want to celebrate Halloween.

- Hank taking care of Charles or being loyal to him in general.

- Hank and Charles navigating being in a relationship.

- Hank adjusting to his Beast form, or dealing with challenges related to it. How does it affect his life, either physically (ie, does he have a hard time working in his lab at first because he's not used to his new hands?) or mentally/socially (he must have had to stay in hiding before he developed the serum and before mutants became mainstream). If you pair him with someone, it'd be interesting to see the sexual implications addressed--like, does he worry about accidentally hurting his partner with his strength or his sharp teeth? Is the other person turned on by his Beast form?

- Characters discovering/learning to control their powers (whether it's harmless or not is up to you).

- Charles pushing the ethical boundaries of telepathy. This could be anything from occasionally influencing people for convenience to something darker like holding someone prisoner using his powers or altering their memory in a major way.

- Telepathy and mind control in general. I love this whether it's humorous, heroic, or dark.

- Anything about Erik's time with his Brotherhood in between XMFC and his capture. How did he get along with his new friends/followers, especially when most of them had been following Shaw? What type of leader was he?

- Anything about the effect that Erik's time in prison had on him, or how he was treated. Go as angsty or dark as you'd like.

- Erik's love of dramatic costumes.

- Apocalypse ends on an ambiguous note for Erik. What does he do afterward? Is he still a fugitive, or does he get a reprieve because of his help in defeating En Sabah Nur?

- For Charles/Erik, I like in-universe stuff or AUs where they have their powers. I also have a fondness for bottom!Erik (and, in A/B/O, omega!Erik), but I'm not particular on that by any means.

- Emma's activities with the Brotherhood, or her activities after Erik was captured.

- Emma secretly being alive during the Days of Future Past era and after.

Loki (TV 2021)

Requested ships/characters:

Classic Loki
Boastful Loki
Alligator Loki
Ship: Mobius M. Mobius/Ravonna Lexus Renslayer
Ravonna Lexus Renslayer
Kid Loki
Ship: Loki & Mobius M. Mobius
Ship: Loki/Mobius M. Mobius
Ship: Loki/Mobius M. Mobius/Sylvie
Mobius M. Mobius
Loki
Sylvie

Some prompts/things I like:

- Loki variants! I would love to see fic or art about Sylvie, Classic Loki, Boastful Loki, Alligator Loki, or Kid Loki--their backgrounds/how their lives differed from "our" Loki's.

- I would love backstory for Alligator Loki. Was he always an alligator? Did he transform into one? What was his universe like?

- The story of how Kid Loki killed Thor.

- Classic Loki reuniting with Thor, either in life or death.

- Anything involving Sylvie's past or childhood.

- One or more Loki variant ends up in New Asgard.

- TVA worldbuilding or crack. I love the ridiculous bureaucracy, and imagining what TVA employees' lives are like. Do they work constantly? Do they have downtime? Are there weird TVA happy hours and Christmas parties? I also find it fascinating how cult-like the TVA can seem, and it would be interesting to see that through Mobius or Ravonna's perspective.

- TVA smut. They have a machine that dissolves people's clothes! They have collars that can be used to control people! What else might they have? How do they use their technology in filthy ways?

- Anything about Loki's time working at the TVA.

- Sylvie and Mobius topping Loki.

- Loki attempting to manipulate Mobius (perhaps Mobius finds it amusingly transparent).

- Mobius manipulating Loki.

- Loki seduces Mobius.

- Mobius and Ravonna having a secret office tryst.

- Miss Minutes is a sneaky snitch who spies on office romances or misconduct, so the character(s) in question have to be very careful.

Marvel 616

Requested characters/ships:
Kitty Pryde
Illyana Rasputin
Ship: Kitty Pryde/Illyana Rasputin
Ship: Jean Grey/Ororo Munroe
Ship: Emma Frost/Jean Grey
Ship: Erik Lehnsherr & Wanda Maximoff
Erik Lehnsherr
Wanda Maximoff
Jean Grey
Emma Frost

Some prompts/things I like:

- Team interaction, either superhero-related or "off the clock."

- Focus on characters' personal lives.

- Anything related to telepathy. Telepathic characters learning to use their power. Unethical or ethically-dubious uses of telepathy. Mind control. Telepathic sex.

- Clones and alternate-reality versions of characters.

- Time travel-related shenanigans or horror

- Body horror and transformations

- Fear of losing control/going evil, corrupted power.

- Halloween or supernatural themes aren't essential, but I do love Halloween and ghost stories, so if you're interested in the Halloween theme of the exchange, I'm fine with that. I'm a big fan of both happy and bittersweet/ambiguous/unhappy endings.

- Wanda's reality-warping powers.

- Magneto as a leader.

Marvel Cinematic Universe

Requested characters/ships:

Ship: En Dwi Gast | Grandmaster/Loki
Ship: Brunnhilde | Valkyrie/Loki
Ship: Loki/Thor
Loki
Brunnhilde | Valkyrie

- Loki ingratiating himself with the Grandmaster and becoming his sugar baby. I definitely enjoy non-con interpretations where Loki doesn't enjoy himself or feels threatened, but I also enjoy it if he's into it and enjoys the benefits of the arrangement (even if he is willing to overthrow the Grandmaster the first chance he gets).

- Loki/Grandmaster smut

- Valkyrie topping Loki.

- Loki and Valkyrie attempting to discreetly hook up post-Ragnarok.

- Loki's activities while posing as Odin and ruling Asgard.

- Pre-movies Loki or Loki/Thor on Asgard.

- Valkyrie fled to Sakaar because she was literally being haunted by her past and dead comrades.

Alien Series

Requested characters/ships:
Ship: David 8/Meredith Vickers
Ship: David 8/Elizabeth Shaw
Elizabeth Shaw
David 8
Meredith Vickers

Optional prompts/things I like:

- David/Elizabeth, especially if Elizabeth never quite trusts him. I'd be interested in seeing them relate to each other without removing the conflict between them.

- Dark!Elizabeth joining David in his experimentation in between Prometheus and Covenant (or following a similar path on her own).

- Android sex.

- David and Elizabeth keeping each other company on the Engineers' ship.

- AU where Elizabeth gets a different ending (for better or worse).

- Anything about what happened leading up to Elizabeth's death.

- David learning more about the Engineers' practices and technology. When did he decide to destroy them and carry on their experiments?

- David's motivations and reasoning, and his twisted ideas about creation and life.

- Backstory about David's life with Peter Weyland. I'd also be interested in David/Peter Weyland if you wanted to take it in that direction.

- Anything about David and Meredith Vickers' relationship and rivalry, and how they saw each other.

- David/Meredith. Maybe they have hatesex. Maybe Vickers takes out her anger on him. Maybe one or both of them worry about Weyland finding out and disapproving. Or maybe they relate to each other in some way even though there's also some resentment.

- AU where Meredith survives.

BioShock Infinite

Requested characters/ships:

Ship: Robert Lutece & Rosalind Lutece
Ship: Elizabeth & Songbird
Ship: Booker DeWitt & Elizabeth

- I absolutely love the Luteces and would enjoy something involving them doing scientific experiments together or comparing the similarities and differences between their lives.

- Songbird was Elizabeth's jailer, but also her protector. Or maybe an AU where she chooses to let Songbird protect her.

- Elizabeth's life in the timeline after she was re-captured by Songbird.

- I love complicated parent-child relationships, so I find Booker and Elizabeth really interesting.

- Maybe an AU where Elizabeth chooses to forgive Booker--at the expense of other Elizabeths in different realities.

comments

Omegaverse exchange letter

Hi! Thanks for writing for me, or considering writing for me. I'll keep this brief since 1) I have very few hard and fast wants or DNWs (seriously, go wild! I read all sorts of kinks and omegaverse interpretations) and 2) I think the requested freeform tags probably give a decent idea of what I like. But I wanted to put together a letter with some general likes and fandom-specific prompts.

General likes: Knotting, desperation, power imbalance, dominance/submission (my requests skew toward omegas being the submissive parties, but I'm open to dominant omegas, too), exposure or exhibitionism, public claiming/public sex, spanking, pussy/hole/cock spanking, objectification, breeding, bondage, use of toys (especially plugs and dildos), use of things like stirrups and breeding benches, medical kink/medical exams. I enjoy both consensual and non-con/dub-con scenarios.

On a less kinkier note, I enjoy domesticity, seduction, bonding, characters dealing with heats and ruts as a matter-of-fact part of life, and in-heat omegas being cared for.

In terms of A/B/O anatomy, I'm pretty flexible. I'm cool with male omegas either having vaginas or having special lubricating assholes. I enjoy it if female alphas have some sort of cock they can use for penetration and knotting, but the specifics are up to you.

DNWs: Trauma to teeth or eyes, stillbirths (references to early-term miscarriages okay), extreme underage (under ~14).

Optional prompts:

X-Men (Alternate Timeline Movies)

- Beta!Hank is in love with Charles, who is either an alpha or an omega, and tries to accommodate his sexual needs.

- Omega!Erik goes into heat while with the Brotherhood. Alpha!Emma helps him through it.

- Alpha!Hank has a particularly large knot when he's in his Beast form. It's almost too much for omega!Erik to take, but he's determined.

- Omega!Erik has no patience for anyone who sees him as weak or submissive, and is extremely picky about the alphas he'll fuck. Then he meets Charles, who fucks him just right and appreciates him for all that he is.

- After one of his crimes/betrayals (maybe post-Cuba, or post-Days of Future Past), Charles claims Erik as his omega property. He says that he is doing this as a kindness, to save Erik from being imprisoned by humans. But he has few qualms about forcing Erik to submit.

Loki (TV 2021)

- Loki is an omega and assumed that any variant of him would be, too. He is surprised and intrigued to learn that isn't the case.

- Loki goes into heat on Lamentis. Alpha!Sylvie has to help him out.

- Loki goes into heat while at the TVA, and Mobius fucks him. Maybe he claims it's only out of necessity, and humiliates Loki but telling him what a big inconvenience it is to have to do it.

- Alternatively, omega!Loki seduces alpha!Mobius, who has never been in close quarters with such an enticing omega before.

- Alpha Sylvie and Mobius share omega Loki.

- Give me the wildest TVA-based smut. Maybe they have public breeding benches for omegas, or make omega!Loki undergo a humiliating medical exam. Maybe they have fearsome machines for knotting or masturbating naughty omegas who go into heat. Mobius is an active participant.

The Alienist

- John, who's a beta or alpha, helping omega!Laszlo through a heat. Maybe it starts out as a "friend helping out" thing and turns into more.

- Laszlo wants to conduct an experiment or examination.

- Omega!John is out of sorts. Maybe his heat suppressants aren't working, or he's starting to go into heat in in-opportune times. Alpha!Laszlo helps him out. He's a doctor, after all.

- Alpha!Sarah tops and dominates omega!Laszlo and omega! or beta!John.

- Omega!Laszlo's secret fantasy is to submit to an alpha.

Original Works (M/M)

- Arranged marriage with forced consummation. Maybe the omega is claimed publicly after the ceremony. Or perhaps he has to undergo an examination afterward to prove that the consummation occurred.

- Spoils of war scenarios. An omega is taken prisoner by the enemy. I'm totally on board with both non-con scenarios with lots of humiliation or gentler scenarios where the omega expects to be raped but finds that his captor is surprisingly gentle and considerate of his wishes.

- Public use, either as a thing that is simply normalized or as a punishment for a crime.

- Omegas confined to a breeding facility or brothel. Bondage, medical exams, forced breeding, whatever you can imagine.

- It is considered fully acceptable for an alpha to expose and spank his omega in front of others.

- Alpha father examines his omega son, perhaps to make sure he doesn't have sex with anyone else before he can claim him for himself.

comments

Thanks for writing for me!

First of all, I like to read a lot of genres, tones, and kinks! I'm super easy to please. If something isn't in my DNWs, you can assume I consider it opt-out.

General likes: Humor, smut, character studies, backstory, friendship fic, unlikely friends, shipfic, darkfic, kink, canon divergence AUs, bittersweet or open-ended stories, all sorts of narrative styles (third person, second person, epistolary fiction...), ghosts, strong-willed or intelligent characters.

Smut likes: Seduction, fingering, kneeling, wearing anal plugs or other toys while clothed, BDSM (especially D/s), spanking, flogging, humiliation, non-con/dub-con, bondage.

DNWs: Underage under 14, animal cruelty, AUs other than canon divergence.

Some canon-specific likes/prompts:

Knives Out

- Marta being kind but smart and formidable.

- Dysfunctional family dynamics.

- Post-movie fic about what happens next.

- Canon divergence AUs--what if Harlan lived? What if Ransom didn't get caught?

X-Men (Alternate Timeline Movies)

- Telepathy, including kinky or morally questionable uses of it.

- Charles, Erik, or Emma as a mentor to Jean.

- Emma actually being alive after First Class.

- Erik and Jean bonding, either platonically or not.

- Jean topping Erik while in Phoenix mode.

- Erik and Hank bonding and overcoming their differences. Or, alternatively, having hatesex.

- Erik and Charles finding a way to be together despite their differences. Or, alternatively, not being together but remaining close.

Marvel Comics

- I love the complicated familial relationship between Jean and Rachel, and the idea of them bonding and getting to know each other.

- I adore both Kitty/Illyana and Kitty/Rachel.

- I enjoy time travel and alternate universes and how they can impact relationships.

- I also enjoy stories where the characters get a break from superhero business and spend time together.

White Collar

- Cons, heists, and undercover jobs.

- I love the dynamics between Mozzie and, well, pretty much everyone.

- June being involved in a con or scheme or some kind.

- Neal and Sara ending up together long-term and making it work.

- I really like Sara/Alex and would enjoy pretty much anything about them.

- Pre-canon fic about Neal, especially involving Keller or Adler.

- I love it when Neal and Peter are a little bit at odds with each other but also respect and trust each other.

Torchwood

- Aliens made them do it type scenarios.

- Jack and Ianto roleplaying in the bedroom.

- Cracky situations.

- Team interaction.

- Canon divergence where Owen, Tosh, and Ianto survive for longer, or the events of Children of Earth don't happen (or happen differently).

Spartacus series

- One of my favorite things about this series is Roman political and social intrigue and scheming.

- I love how Batiatus and Lucretia were terrible people sometimes but seemed to really love each other.

- I love the fluctuating power dynamics between Illithyia and Lucretia over the course of the series, and the way they end up tied to each other through circumstance and manipulation.

Uncharted

- Nadine and Chloe having adventures together and falling for each other.

- Pre-canon backstory about Nate having a relationship or fling with Harry or with both Harry and Chloe.

- Loyalty kink with Talbot and Marlowe.

The Alienist

- I like the idea of Sara and Laszlo coming to respect each other as peers and maybe developing a friends with benefits type relationship (or something more).

- I enjoy how John tends to trust Laszlo and follow his lead, even when he has reservations.

- Sara and John finding a way to make a relationship work, with or without marriage.

- Sara, John, and Laszlo finding happiness in a triad relationship.

The Queen's Gambit

- Benny and Beth continuing their sexual relationship.

- Sexual roleplay involving chess.

- Beth masturbating or fantasizing while playing chess.

- Beth either continuing her friendship with Jolene or starting a relationship with her.

Spinning Silver

- What does Wanda do after the events of the novel?

- I really like the idea of Irina and Mirnatius growing to respect and care for each other more. I'm also interested in what their political relationship looks like.

- Wanda shows a lot of strength and determination when she demands that the Staryk king release Miryem--I would love to see that explored in a Wanda/Miryem context.

comments

Whoops! I almost forgot to unlock this. It's been a hectic weekend. Sorry about that.

This is my first time doing Purim Gifts, so this is all a bit new to me. Honestly, my fic and art tastes are very broad, the content I'll read is very broad, and the main reason I enjoy doing exchanges is just to see more cool content made about characters and canons I love. So I'm super easy to please.

Some general things I like: Friendship fic, character studies and backstory, smut and kink (especially BDSM-related kinks and spanking), humor, loyalty kink, pining, enemies becoming friends/lovers and maybe not completely trusting each other or completely moving past their prior conflicts, unexpected friendships. I also like all sorts of narrative structures and POVs--epistolary fiction, second person, you name it.

Dislikes: Animal abuse, explicit underage sex, non-powered AUs for X-Men (I generally prefer it if the characters still have powers and are still mutants in AUs, even if it's an AU where they're not superheroes).

I'm a multishipper and like a lot of characters, but here are some of my favorites:

X-Men (Alternate Timeline Movies): Erik, Jean, Charles/Erik, Erik/Hank, Erik/Jean

X-Men (Comics): Jean Grey, Ororo Munroe, Magneto, Wanda Maximoff, Kitty Pryde, Illyana Rasputin, Emma Frost, Jean/Ororo, Jean/Emma, Kitty/Ilyana, Magneto/Charles Xavier.

Schitt's Creek: David Rose, Alexis Rose, Moira Rose, Johnny Rose, Stevie Budd, Ronnie Lee. I'm not a big shipper in this fandom, but I'm definitely cool with receiving ship!fic.

Megillat Ester | Book of Esther: I've liked Esther and the Book of Esther since I was young, and this seemed like a good occasion to add it to my requests.

comments

Just watched the first episode of The L Word: Generation Q. Because of course it was a foregone conclusion that I would. I have a big love/hate relationship with the original show. It was airing when I was between the ages of 16-21, which was a time when I was figuring out my sexuality a lot, and I was old enough to be aware of it and wanted to see it but young enough that maybe I put too many expectations on what was ultimately a batshit soap opera. I've rewatched it a couple times, but I still remember feeling burned by the crazy final season with its "murder mystery" that didn't go anywhere. I also remember the weird webisodes they put online afterward that included things like random incest revelations.

So I was curious to see how the tone and content of Generation Q would compare, and I just finished watching the first episode. My thoughts, complete with some spoilers and speculation:

* The new characters are...fine. I don't dislike them, but they aren't grabbing me a whole lot yet.

* Of course Bette and Tina are divorced now. That was surprisingly satisfying for me, because I never believed their relationship could actually survive long-term.

* The fact that Angelica is 16 now makes me feel really old.

* Bette running for mayor feels very true to her character.

* I'm a little uneasy about the revelation they seem to be building up to about why Bette is running and why she's so passionate about the dangers of opioids. I'm worried they're going to reveal that Kit became addicted to opioids or something.

* I'm not crazy about Alice's hair.

* I'm surprisingly on board with Shane being mysteriously wealthy and married now. Yeah, it's kind of silly, but I'm on board with a certain level of silliness from The L Word.

Verdict: I'll keep watching. I'm curious about where things go, though I wish that the new characters felt like they had bigger plots.

comments

Every year, I say I’m not doing NaNoWriMo, and every year I end up making a token effort anyway because I have enough friends who do it that it’s a good conversation piece.

This year, I’m actually doing okay! I have 6,700 words, which is definitely below par, but I think it’s the highest I’ve gotten doing NaNo. I’m taking the “NaNo rebel” route by working on multiple things. I didn’t feel like devoting 100% of my writing attention to my novel WiP was how I wanted to spend November, so I’ve decided to count all my words across multiple projects.

For the first week, I mostly focused on writing some treats for the Trick or Treat exchange.

I’ve now shifted my focus over to an original novel that I’m rewriting, but I’m also focusing on finishing my X-Men WiP (The Damage Done) so that I can finish posting it. No way do I want to spend the entirety of November without working on it.

Going into this, I wondered if working on multiple projects, including some smaller ones like the Trick or Treat fics, would be an easier way of getting down words.

It turns out that the answer to that, at least for me in this context, is “LOL no.”

Throwing out some words for my novel that I’ve been thinking about for ages and won’t have to share with anyone for a while is a whole different game than coming up with ideas, writing complete stories, and editing them to a point where I’m comfortable posting them publicly. I’m actually not sure if NaNo was a motivator for me last week or not. I was already motivated to write treats for the exchange, and I sort of had to put NaNo on the back burner since the focus was on something other than word count. I expect the same thing will happen with The Damage Done--I have enough written on it that most of what I’m doing right now is revision and adding to existing scenes, which is necessary work but not great for boosting word count.

But that’s okay, because I’m still doing great at being productive, and I find I’m happier doing NaNo if I play a bit fast and loose with the rules and adapt it to what I want to be working on. I’ve gotten a bit bad at writing consistently (thanks in no small part to the nonogram app I put on my phone, which has taken some of my attention away from writing on my lunch break), so re-establishing the habit of writing every day/most days is my main priority right now.

comments

Dear Trick or Treat Author,

Thank you for writing for me! I like a lot of genres, tropes, and kinks, so I'm pretty flexible. All optional details are very optional. Also, I like both happy/fluffy fic and some pretty dark stuff, so feel free to go in whichever direction you want. I don't mind unhappy endings. I have some favorite ships, which I've included, but I also enjoy gen and friendship fic just as much. As for content and things like narrative structure/POV, unless I've listed it in my DNWs, you can assume I'm okay with it (this includes things like character death, infidelity, unhappy endings, etc).

Also, I'm happy to receive both fic and art. I don't know if I'm very good at giving art-specific prompts, but I've tried to list some likes that could be interpreted in a visual medium.

General DNWs: Animal abuse/death--particularly involving pets (things like non-graphic references to farming or hunting are generally fine), readerfic, dental trauma.

Fandom-specific DNW exceptions: I'd prefer no non-powered AUs for X-Men Alternate Timeline Movies fandom. Also, I didn't list animal abuse/death as a DNW for Annihilation or Alien because I feel like animal-based horror is a big aspect of Annihilation and that there's some potential for that in Alien, and I'm okay with it.

General likes:

- Friendship fic
- Character studies and backstory
- Smut
- For porn, things I like include like anal sex/play, spanking, D/s and power play, slavefic, A/B/O, BDSM AUs, dub-con/non-con, humiliation, and watersports. I like both consensual and non-con/dub-con interpretations. Also, I'm cool with a lot of kinks written in a way that's not explicitly sexual, like spanking as non-sexualized punishment or A/B/O worldbuilding. I'm also happy with vanilla smut, though!
- Darkfic/art
- Humor and cracky premises
- Loyalty kink (one character is very loyal toward and cares for another. Recognition of that from the other character can be nice but isn't essential)
- Pining (mutual or non-mutual)
- Enemies becoming friends/lovers and maybe not completely trusting each other or completely moving past their prior conflicts
- Bonding and unexpected friendships
- Ghosts and ghost stories
- I love Halloween, so if you want to do something Halloween-themed, I'm definitely game!
- I also like all sorts of narrative structures and POVs--epistolary fiction, second person, you name it.

Some specific likes for tricks:

- Body horror
- Tentacle monsters
- Gaslighting/manipulation
- Mind control
- Frightening visions/hallucinations/apparitions (take of this what you will--could be ghosts, hallucinations, telepathy, etc.)
- Characters not trusting their own perceptions/questioning reality
- Hauntings/ghosts
- Stockholm syndrome/lima syndrome
- Imprisonment

( Prompts and fandom-specific info )

comments

So...I've been working on the Frankenstory for a while now. The Frankenstory is the unofficial name of the X-Men WIP that I started two years ago and have been fiddling with ever since. I used to always write very linearly. Like, I could never even skip over scenes that were giving me trouble. But it turns out that that style of writing doesn't work as well when I work full time and don't feel like writing when I get home. So I wrote most of this fic in pieces in Google Docs, all out of order. And I've been filling in the gaps and rearranging scenes ever since. All in all, I'd call the method successful. I did write a lot, and I found I was able to capture my initial ideas much better than if I sat on them for a while. But this method definitely needs more refinement if I want to keep using it, because this WIP is a mess.

Anyway, it's almost done, but I made the decision of going ahead and starting to post it on AO3 as I finish revising. I debated whether it would make more sense to finish the fic completely first, but so far I feel good about my decision. It spurred me to make some narrative decisions that I was dragging my feet on. Anyway, if you like dark!Charles, dub-con, misuse of telepathy, and mutual Stockholm Syndrome and Lima Syndrome, here's my WIP.

I had this really ambitious idea that I would try to finish the main three X-Men movieverse WIPs I'm working on before Dark Phoenix comes out. The other two WIPs are an extended version of the Charles/Hank Ancient Rome fic I wrote recently and a post-X-Men Apocalypse AU involving Wanda Maximoff. All of these fics are AUs, so it's not liked I'm worried about Dark Phoenix jossing them, but whenever new canon comes out, I worry about it impacting what I'm inspired to write or how I see the characters, so I liked the idea of finishing these fics before then. I don't think that's really going to happen.

On a personal note, I don't know if I'm going to get around to seeing Dark Phoenix in theaters or not, and I'm a little sad about that. I'm really eager to see it, but I've been working on addressing some anxiety issues, and those issues are affecting my willingness to go to a movie theater right now. I don't want to let this affect my life too much, but I don't want it to be something that I stress out over. So I'm playing it by ear right now. In any case, I'm a spoiler fanatic, so it's not like I'll be in the dark about what happens. :P

comments

I've decided to take a break from doing exchanges for a while, and it's really, really nice. I wasn't sure if I wanted to post about it, because I don't want to make a big deal about it or make it sound like I've sworn them off forever. It's not like I hate exchanges by any means, and I'm tentatively planning on doing Trick or Treat again, at least. But I just really need to scale back and take a break.

Though I always give it my all, it's been a while since I felt really happy with my writing output in exchanges. I've never been good at juggling multiple fandoms, and even though I'm careful to only offer fandoms that I feel enthusiastic about writing for, that doesn't always translate to a great degree of confidence (even if I really like my assignment). I've also come to feel like the format of an exchange, with a strict deadline and the pressure to give someone a gift they'll be happy with, isn't the sort of context that I produce my best writing in.

I have too many projects that I want to finish that seem to keep getting put off because I take up new things, and I really want to give myself time to finish them.

Lately, when I do sign up for something, I've felt a lot more comfortable with prompt fests/exchanges where there aren't official assignments and there's more flexibility. I'm having a lot of fun with the X-Men Rare Pairs fest right now, for example. I miss the heyday of kink memes on LJ and DW, because that sort of format was perfect for me.

I've never been a huge exchange person, but not signing up for them is a little hard because I always want to sign up for something that looks fun. And for me, writing fic has always been partly a social activity. But it's so freeing to take a break.

comments

Unless my search skills have failed me, there doesn't seem to be any currently active community on DW for the X-Men movieverse. Would it be madness to consider starting one? Maaaybe, yeah. I'm not sure how much interest there would actually be. I'd also like to support the communities that have been started on Pillowfort. I'm not the greatest at self-promotion, and I'd really need to plan activities or something to spur any interest. I'd like to do it, but I don't want to half-ass it or get my hopes up.

comments

The NaNo curse

I feel like NaNoWriMo might be cursed for me. I feel a little bad even joking about that, because I know, I know--it's an accountability and prioritization thing.

But the fact remains. No matter how much I water down NaNo to make it work for me, I always end up feeling like I've been less productive than I would have been if I didn't say I'm doing NaNo. I feel like I could set a goal of writing flash fiction for NaNo, and it still wouldn't happen for some reason. This year, I do have some decent excuses--real life has been a pain this month. Though, if I'm really being honest, writing in general hasn't been going great for the past few months. I struggled a bit with Trick or Treat this year even though I was really enthusiastic about my assignment and the prospect of writing treats.

This year, the NaNo casualty was my X-Men movieverse fic of doom, the 30k WIP I've been writing for the past year and told myself that I would absolutely finish during November, using NaNo as an excuse to nudge myself. This fic is also known as the Frankenfic, since I pieced together scenes haphazardly and am now trying to bring the damn thing to life.

I really do want to finish it. I feel like I need to so that I can focus on other things. I'm at that awkward point where my heart is starting to move on and my brain is losing interest. But I've put too much work into this damn thing to leave it unfinished, and I really just need to write the ending and flesh out some of the scenes in the middle. It's terrible, but at this point, I almost feel like I'd rather finish it even if it's not perfect or doesn't match my original vision as well as I'd like.

comments

It's been ages since I posted on here, and I kinda miss it. So I thought I would post an update here. I'm pretty sure I still have crossposting set up with LJ, and I don't really feel inclined to turn it off right now, but I haven't really been using LJ except for reading old kink memes. I want to start using my DW more, though.

So, a brief update:

- Fandom-wise, I'm mainly into X-Men at the moment. I'd been sort of into the movieverse for a while but not really fannish about it, and then last year I dived headfirst into the movieverse fandom and started getting into the comics. I'm a little sad that there doesn't seem to be more of an active community on DW at the moment, because I'd love to have more people to chat and talk fic with.

Otherwise, I'm still into Lucifer and am really excited that Netflix has saved it from cancellation. I also watched Killing Even recently and really enjoyed it.

- Writing has been hit or miss. I'm working on a long-ish (I expect it to be around 40k when it's all done) X-Men fic that I'm aiming to have done this summer. I've been working on it forever, and it's kind of a mess, but I want to finish it, damn it.

I finished a short story recently, which I'm excited about because I'm not great at short stories. My novel has been going less well, and I'm thinking of taking on a new project that feels more straightforward. I hesitate to do that, because I don't wan to be someone who doesn't finish stuff, but...the new idea actually has a plot. It has a clear beginning, middle, and end that I feel capable of writing. The other project doesn't.

Since I work full-time now, and I'm prone to feeling lazy and tired when I get home, I've taken to writing on my phone a lot during my break. The good news is, I've written a fair amount this way (about 15k words of the X-Men fic), and I feel like I've been a lot more productive. The bad news is that I've been writing out of order, in small snippets, and now it's a pain in the ass to finish the story and get it organized. I want to find a way to make this method work, because I'm so much more productive this way (and less inclined to just think about scenes instead of actually writing them down).

- IRL, I've been doing all right. 2017 and the first few months of 2018 were kind of stressful and tough on the anxiety/depression front, but I'm hanging in there and am doing pretty well now, all things considered ("all things" being the pretty demoralizing state of politics at the moment). Still working. Still on the fence about whether I feel up to trying graduate studies.

comments

I tried to include some things that I like/would find interesting about the characters I requested, but feel free to ignore or use that as a rough guideline.

General likes:

- Friendship fic
- Character studies and backstory
- Smut
- For porn, things I like include like anal sex/play, spanking, power play, slavefic, A/B/O, BDSM AUs, humiliation, and watersports.
- Humor
- Loyalty kink (one character is very loyal toward and cares for another. Recognition of that from the other character can be nice but isn't essential)
- Pining (mutual or non-mutual)
- Enemies becoming friends/lovers and maybe not completely trusting each other
- Characters getting a break from their usual routine, like going out
- Bonding and unexpected friendships
- I love Halloween, so if you want to do something Halloween-themed, I'm definitely game!

Some specific likes for tricks:

- Body horror
- Tentacle monsters
- Gaslighting/manipulation
- Mind control
- Frightening visions/hallucinations/apparitions (take of this what you will--could be ghosts, hallucinations, telepathy, etc.)
- Characters not trusting their own perceptions/questioning reality
- Hauntings/ghosts
- Stockholm syndrome/lima syndrome

DNWs:

- Explicit underage sex
- Character bashing (characters being criticized or made fun of a bit is fine. I just like it to feel fair or good-humored)
- Animal abuse

Fandoms:

X-Men (Alternate Timeline movies)

Characters requested: Erik Lehnsherr, Ororo Munroe, Hank McCoy, Jean Grey, Charles Xavier, Peter Maximoff.

Some of my favorite pairings are Charles/Hank, Charles/Erik, and Jean/Ororo, but I'm pretty flexible on that. I also really like team interaction, solo gen, and friendship.

Some prompts/things I like:

- Anything related to the school. Maybe Charles and Hank running the school together, or one or both of them interacting with students in general. Or Jean or Ororo in a school context.

- Jean and/or Ororo learning to control their powers or playing with them (whether it's harmless or not is up to you).

- Charles relating to Jean as a telepath and seeing himself in her.

- Jean and Ororo being friends.

- Ororo adjusting to life at the school and in the US.

- Ororo having a crush on Jean (either requited or not).

- Charles pushing the ethical boundaries of telepathy. This could be anything from occasionally influencing people for convenience to something darker like holding someone prisoner using his powers or altering their memory in a major way.

- Anything related to Charles being a telepath, in general.

- Peter getting more involved at the school after Apocalypse. Maybe the younger kids look up to him and he's not sure what to think about it.

- Peter's criminal activities and thrill-seeking behavior.

- Erik finding out that Peter is his son. Up to you whether you want to take it in a humorous or more dramatic direction. I would be all for Erik being exasperated by Peter and them having some fun father-son interaction, but I'd also enjoy a more serious take on how hard it might be for them to figure things out.

- For Charles/Erik, I like in-universe stuff or AUs where they have their powers. I also have a fondness for bottom!Erik (and, in A/B/O, omega!Erik), but I'm not particular on that by any means.

Alien Series

Characters requested: David 8, Elizabeth Shaw, Meredith Vickers.

In addition to gen, I really like David/Elizabeth. I'd also be interested in seeing more David/Vickers.

Some prompts/things I like:

- David/Elizabeth, especially if Elizabeth never quite trusts him. I'd be interested in seeing them relate to each other without removing the conflict between them.

- AU where Elizabeth gets a different ending (for better or worse).

- Anything about what happened leading up to Elizabeth's death.

- Elizabeth was alive to see the Engineers' planet (and learns what David did).

- Elizabeth's life/career on Earth before Prometheus.

- David learning more about the Engineers' practices and technology. When did he decide to destroy them and carry on their experiments?

- David's twisted ideas about creation and life.

- Backstory about David's life with Peter Weyland. I'd also be interested in David/Peter Weyland if you wanted to take it in that direction.

- Vickers' life and background before Prometheus. I feel like there are a lot of questions about her, especially in regards to her relationship with her father. Was it well-known that she was Weyland's daughter? What was the source of the conflict between them?

- Anything about David and Vickers' relationship and rivalry, and how they saw each other.

- David/Vickers. Maybe they have hatesex. Maybe Vickers takes out her anger on him. Maybe one or both of them worry about Weyland finding out and disapproving. Or maybe they relate to each other in some way even though there's also some resentment.

White Collar

Characters requested: Mozzie, Sara Ellis, Alex Hunter, Diana Berrigan.

Pairings I like with these characters include Sara/Alex, Sara/Diana, Alex/Kate, and Sara/Neal. I also really like team/friendship fic and characters working together, especially if it's an eccentric or unexpected combination (like Mozzie and Sara or Mozzie and Diana).

Some prompts/things I like:

- Mozzie's schemes, unusual interests, disguises, and conspiracy theories. Maybe he introduces another character to the Tiles of Fire movies, or comes up with a bizarre Halloween costume.

- Mozzie interacting with Diana and/or her son (maybe Theo can go trick or treating).

- I also really like Mozzie's friendships with Elizabeth and Neal, and his interaction with Peter.

- For Diana, Sara, and Alex, I really like that while they have different characteristics and strengths but are all very good at what they do and are highly-motivated. I like Diana's toughness and assertiveness, Sara's determination, and Alex's self-protectiveness. I'd love anything involving their jobs (or "job" in Alex's case), even if it's not detailed casefic.

- I also really like how Sara skirts the line between being on the law-abiding side and sometimes breaking the rules.

- Anything involving Sara's sister. I'm a little annoyed that there was never much closure in canon--even in the form of her explicitly accepting that there might not be a resolution.

- I like Diana's teamwork with Jones and Neal.

- Something post-finale involving one of the requested characters would be interesting. What do they go on to do?

- For something Halloween/horror-themed, maybe someone could find themselves with a cursed/haunted artifact. Or they could break into a haunted building.

Torchwood

Characters requested: Toshiko Sato, Suzie Costello, Jack Harkness, Ianto Jones.

If you go with something shippy, I ship pretty much ship everyone with everyone in Torchwood. I'm not a big fan of Children of Earth and I didn't watch Miracle Day, so I'd prefer something that takes place prior to that (or a canon-divergence AU).

Some prompts/things I like:

- Suzie's experiments with the resurrection gauntlet.

- Backstory and character study for Suzie. Why did she hate her father? How did she come to start killing for her experiments?

- Toshiko being smart and competent.

- Ianto's experiences with Torchwood One and trying to save Lisa.

- Jack's backstory and years on Earth as an immortal. Also, his missing memories from his time as a Time Agent. If you wanted to go a darker route, I'm interested by the implications that he's done some pretty dark things, both that he remembers and doesn't remember.

- My favorite episodes are Cyberwoman; Countrycide; Greeks Bearing Gifts; They Keep Killing Suzie; Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang; Adrift; and Fragments. I love fic based on those.

- Alien tech gone awry (either in a light-hearted or dark way).

- People coming/going through the Rift.

- Aliens. And sex involving aliens if you wanted to go that route.

- Anything involving the Year That Never Was and the effect it had on Jack or on the team.

comments

I will then give you a DVD commentary on that snippet: what I was thinking when I wrote it, why I wrote it in the first place, what's going on in the character's heads, why I chose certain words, what this moment means in the context of the rest of the story, awful puns [perhaps], and anything else that you'd expect to find on a DVD commentary track.

If you would like to ask about multiple stories, that's awesome. Please post the passages in separate comments so that I can respond coherently about each one. :)

comments

No way of knowing how long the show will last, of course, but at least this season won't be it.

comments

Okay, so, I've managed to get really into the new Fox show Lucifer. And now I'm really nervous about whether it's going to be picked up for a second season or not.

It took a few weeks for the show to grow on me. I started with episode four, which I only watched on a whim because it was on after The X-Files, and it kind of annoyed me. But I decided to give it a try for a couple more weeks, and now it's grown on me so much.

It's kind of an odd show. I haven't really read the Lucifer comics much (I'm mainly familiar with the character from Sandman, which is one of my favorite series ever), but I can tell that this seems like an adaptation in name only. Turning the story into a police procedural and making Lucifer a freaking consultant seems like a silly and frankly lazy choice to me considering how common crime procedurals are. The procedural aspect isn't even all that great, to be honest. I haven't found any of the cases too interesting. The attempted UST between him and Detective Chloe Decker also feels really formulaic to me.

Considering how even network TV has gotten a lot darker and boundary-breaking than it used to be, and how it's tried to jump on the bandwagon of antihero shows like Breaking Bad, Lucifer is surprisingly tame and dorky so far. I mean, Hannibal really pushed the limits of what's acceptable for Network TV, and you would kind of expect a show about the literal Devil to do the same. But while Lucifer does have moments where he's genuinely creepy and actually seems dangerous, he's mostly played like a petulant party boy who does stuff like bribe his way out of speeding tickets and smoke pot. And as much as he talks about wanting to punish people, we never actually see him do anything very bad. He's pretty tame, which isn't a bad thing, but sometimes the show does seem like it doesn't quite know what tone it's going for. It reminds me a little of Torchwood in that respect. Like, are we supposed to see the half-assed demon face Lucifer sometimes flashes to scare people with as genuinely threatening? It looks like something out of a kid's show.

But the thing is, I really love the show so far. It's flawed, but I love it for the same reasons I loved Torchwood and love White Collar. It's fun. It's funny. There's banter and charm ridiculous situations. It's always this type of show, which I feel like I shouldn't necessarily like this much, that worms its way into my heart and puts down roots. I mean, I probably sound fairly critical of it, but I really do love it more than it probably deserves.

And Tom Ellis is so great as the main character. He does sell both the creepy and playful sides of Lucifer very well.

And this is why I hate getting into shows in their first season. I don't want it to be canceled. :/

comments

I was very determined to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens in the theater. I saw Episodes II and III in theaters, and I wanted to continue the tradition.

This created a dilemma, however. I don't particularly enjoy going to the movies. I'm very easily distracted, and people moving/making noise near me while I'm trying to watch something bothers me. I'm not someone who enjoys being a part of an audience. Normally, I would have waited a few weeks for the crowds to die down more. But I'm working full-time now, and I'm on vacation at the moment, so I didn't want to wait too long.

As it so happened, I had a doctor's appointment on Tuesday morning, and it was right across the street from the movie theater. So it seemed like a pretty convenient opportunity to go to the 10 AM showing.

I ended up getting in line for my ticket at around 9:40, and the place was already getting pretty busy. I was really disappointed that I didn't have time to get popcorn. The concession line was so long it was ridiculous. But I probably saved myself an extra $15. The theater was surprisingly busy for a weekday morning, and I had to sit closer to the front than I would have liked. Overall, it worked out pretty well since I had most of the row to myself.

As for the movie itself....

( Spoilers! )

comments

On Saturday night, our lights were flickering strangely and the neighbors' power went out entirely. I have no idea what was wrong, but four power trucks came out and we're working for hours.

At 3 AM, they were still working and I was ready to go to sleep. Just as I was starting to doze off, the power went out.

Now, I cannot rest in a pitch dark room. I've always been a little bit scared of the dark, and I'm a big horror fan. When my bedroom is pitch dark, I start imagining things. I didn't want to light a candle and risk the fire hazard (I had enough trouble lighting my menorah last week), so I rigged a flashlight as a sort of night light.

Both cats were spooked. One was skulking around with her belly close to the floor, and the other wanted to be cuddled.

Finally, at 4, the power came back on. But now there was a new problem: the cable and internet were out. We decided to give it a little time.

At 8, my mom woke me up because she was trying to call Verizon about the cable. I was a little under the weather to begin with, and with only four hours of sleep, I wasn't doing great. I didn't get back to bed until 11 or so.

A Verizon technician finally came out, but it turns out the problem is that the power company actually cut the cable cord. The technician didn't have the necessary tools and said someone else would be out. We're still waiting. My Internet access is limited to public wifi.

With luck, this will all be resolved this afternoon. If it's not, then I won't be able to make it to the White Collar rewatch.

comments
