Ugh

Having a spot of computer trouble at the moment, though I think it's getting resolved (I hope!). It wasn't responding or loading anything, and I had to unplug it to get it to restart. Then it started doing a disk cleanup to get rid of corrupted files. And then it was still funky.

I see two possibilities:

1) It has something to do with the issue I'm having with Windows update, where it says it's installing updates when I shut down my computer, but never actually finishes/freezes up/who knows what. That had happened again just prior to this problem.

2) It has something to do with the Firefox update I downloaded this afternoon.

I'm leaning towards the latter. When I first restarted, the computer was behaving well enough until I tried opening Firefox. And it seems to be doing fine now that I've uninstalled it. But I'm running a virus scan too just in case, and I'm trying to find a solution to the Windows Update problem, because even if that's not what fucked things up, I should probably still try to get it working right.

In the meantime, I have a browser dilemma. I've been using Firefox for a few years now, and I've grown quite fond of it. For one thing, I never realized how much I took adblock for granted. I'm on Chrome now and am amazed to actually see these ads on LJ I've heard people mention.

So, do I:

1) Try to get Firefox back, maybe an earlier version.
2) Try out Chrome some more (it looks okay, but I'm finding it tricky to figure out).
3) Use Internet Explorer (which I hate. But maybe if I use it more, I'll see some actual advantages to it?).
4) Go back to using MSN Explorer (which I like better than IE, but not by much. Pro is that I can easily access my MSN email).

Weird day

I shouldn't complain, but it's been kind of a weird day. My computer seems to be doing all right at the moment, but LJ looks all weird in Chrome.

I went to the bookstore to see if I could order one of my textbooks through them, but if I do that, I can only buy it online. So I'm debating if I should buy it through their website using PayPal or if I should spend the extra money involved in purchasing it from my school's bookstore. Maybe I can get it used. I like new books, but this is a really expensive textbook. Bah.

The computer mess spurred me to back up some stories and fics that hadn't been backed up. I decided to use my new flash drive, because my old writing one is really old and is only 128 MB. The new one is 2 GB. How technology changes...

Earlier, I couldn't figure out why I wasn't super hungry for dinner, and realized it was because I ate a fairly substantial lunch today, as opposed to a snack like I usually have. Now I feel like I've eaten too much.

I still don't know what I'm going to do about the Windows Update thing.

I think I'm going to take it easy tonight. Try to get some writing done (I'm still trying to finish my WIP before school starts. I think I can if I apply myself). And maybe watch a movie. I'm trying to decide between The Departed and Mystic River. One, I've seen and like okay, even though I find it depressing and disturbing. The other, I've never seen before, but I suspect it'll be depressing and disturbing. So I guess it depends on how surprised I want to be by it.

Speaking of movies, I really want to see Never Let Me Go, but I've had a hell of a time finding it. The only place I've seen it sold is Barnes and Noble, and I'd really rather rent it, anyway. It's not available on iTunes. I'm thinking of breaking down and checking Blockbuster.

Also speaking of movies, I've set up my movie review blog, but have run across the same issue I've always had: all my reviews are movies from 2009 and 2010. And there are only two of them. I should really review something recent, but the next movie I definitely plan to see in theaters is The Dark Knight Rises, and that doesn't come out until...next summer, I think?
