White Collar 5x03
Oct. 31st, 2013 10:04 pmWow, I really didn't expect how this episode was going to turn out. I could tell there was a fair amount of misdirection in the preview last week, but I didn't actually know what to expect going into this week.
- LOL at Neal getting coffee in front of Midtown Mutual. I love his little strategy to mess with Siegel.
- Also, Midtown Mutual's slogan should be "The Number One Bank of Thieves and Hackers." They always get targeted. No wonder Siegel is suspicious. :P
- I find it kind of cute that Siegel asks for Neal's advice with apartment hunting.
- Neal gets so excited when he learns that Siegel is rich. I think he just loves learning unexpected things about people, but I wonder if he's secretly hoping that Siegel with have more sophisticated taste in restaurants than Peter. Or that he'll let Neal go yachting sometime. :P
- Peter is rocking the double-finger point.
- Wow, that was quick. Hagen already out of prison.
- Interesting conversation between Peter and Neal, with Neal feeling like he hasn't really accomplished much or gone very far during his time with the FBI, at least compared to Peter. Peter has always been the one who's been adamant about Neal being able to change, and the FBI providing an opportunity for him to help people. But with Peter creating some distance, that message was probably lost a bit recently.
- Rebecca is really cute! I think she's supposed to be a recurring character? At least for another episode or two? I'm not positive, but I hope she is. She has a nice smile, and I love how she seems a bit nerdy about old manuscripts.
- Also, I feel like Neal's romantic interests have been a strange progression, both in terms of lifestyle and hair color. We start out with Kate and Alex, who both have dark hair and are criminals. Then he dates Sara, who has red hair and isn't a criminal, but isn't always completely legit, either. Now there's Rebecca, who also has red hair and seems like an innocent civilian. Will Neal eventually date blonde police officers with strong moral codes?
- It's funny seeing Peter riding in a town car with a driver. And he's not even on his way to the game yet! He's getting all he can out of that chauffeur service.
- I love how Peter is amused by Neal messing with Siegel.
- I'm not sure I understand Jones's promotion (other than that it's a good thing). He's not taking over Peter's old job, because Siegel is doing that, right? So what does this promotion mean?
- For someone who doesn't like the feds, Mozzie sure is willing to sell out his enemies to them. :P
- Mozzie's wigs are hilarious.
- Yeah, if Mozzie gave up drinking, he'd be like a totally different person.
- So is the thought of Mozzie hiding his manifesto in that codex. I'm not sure I want to know what's in Mozzie's manifesto. :P
- I love how Neal takes advantage of Siegel's distrust and cons him into buying into the scheme.
- Rebecca and Neal are really cute together. And I love the pages provided by Mozzie. I wonder if Mozzie really believes the president has a UFO.
- LOL at Neal saying it's more exciting to steal paintings than to prevent thefts.
- Neal really doesn't need a rubber stamp of Peter's signature in order to forge it. But I'm sure it would make it easier for him.
- Aw, I think Peter would have had more fun going to the stakeout than to the game. I really don't expect him to keep the ASAC position at this point (though if he doesn't...does he still get to keep the BMW?).
- I wonder who Mozzie got to be the decoy Mozzie.
- LOL, of course Neal's plan would be interrupted by Peter.
- Ouch. Neal is really harsh with Peter here. Poor guy just wants to enjoy the stakeout.
- The robbery sequence is rather tense. And the sets look really nice, with the contrasting red and blue.
- Neal! Don't take off your gloves!
- Is it just me, or was it a little odd when Peter showed up at the bar/restaurant where El was? Those two women with her seemed like they were Elizabeth's friends more than Peter's. I like Elizabeth's dress, though.
- ASAC Peter is not impressed.
- Poor Rebecca. Neal really put her in a jam. It's kind of neat to have a case where we see some of the collateral damage from one of Neal's cons. Neal himself probably isn't aware a lot of the time if someone got in trouble or got fired because of him.
- And poor Peter, taking responsibility for the failure of the stakeout.
- I wonder what Siegel was going to ask Neal there, before they were interrupted. That's got to be important....
- I like Neal helping catch Zev. Just like it's an ordinary case, except Neal has an edge because he already knows who the culprit is and how he got in.
- LOL at Peter scuffing the floor. Neal is so appalled. "This is why I don't like going to museums with him!"
- I LOVE Neal's "Oh, shit" moment when he remembers that he took off his gloves. Yes! Neal is so bad at wearing gloves consistently. I noticed him taking them off when he was breaking out of the museum, and I was really excited when it actually became a plot point, albeit a small one. There's not actually much fallout from Neal leaving prints behind--I'm a little bit curious if it'll come up again in a future episode, though I kind of doubt it.
- LOL at Mozzie's MacGyver wig.
- So, I wonder what's so important about chapter 13 that Hagen had to have it.
- The locations at the end here kind of confuse me. Where is Neal supposed to be meeting Hagen? Wherever it is, it really doesn't look much like the location where they find Siegel at the end.
- Wow, Siegel's death really surprised me. I guess I'm not entirely surprised that he was killed off (I thought it was a possibility), but I really wasn't expecting it here.
- I feel kind of bad for the guy. I mean, he was kind of smarmy, and I didn't want him around long-term. But he was kind of a cool guest character, and he seemed decent. He really developed more of a personality in this episode, and he and Neal had some decent chemistry.
- Also, now Neal has to deal with the fact that yet another person has died in a way connected to him. Poor Neal is cursed.
- Of course, we could find out that Siegel was actually corrupt and working with Hagen or something. You really never know.
