White Collar 5x06
Nov. 21st, 2013 10:05 pmI didn't really know what to expect with this ep since the preview was so vague. I did know it involved figure skating, but only from some pictures that were released.
I ended up enjoying this one a lot. I thought it was a good mixture of case-of-the-week and overarching plot stuff.
- I love it when Neal fakes getting arrested. Neal in cuffs = fun.
- Peter is totally right that Neal would inquire about fake passports right under his nose.
- LOL at Neal taking offense at Peter not letting him keep the passport.
- Kinda stupid to keep parking in the same illegal spot every time when it keeps earning you tickets. Not very stealthy when you're a criminal.
- Peter is not happy when Neal makes up cover stories for them. The look on his face is just screaming, "Neal, what are you doing? No! Don't make me a figure skating coach!"
- So, who's less equipped for their undercover role? Peter, who at least knows how to skate but who knows very little about figure skating, or Neal, who has charisma but hates sports?
- If I were Neal, I don't know if I'd be looking at stuff related to the Mosconi Codex while at work.
- Yay! Rebecca! I like her. I don't blame her for being unhappy and distrustful after what went down. And I like that she doesn't seem completely trusting of Neal. If I lost my job like that, I'd want some answers and assistance, too.
- Why is Neal so insistent about keeping Rebecca from meeting with Peter? Is it more because he's worried about her telling Peter the details of their interaction, or because he's worried about Peter telling her that he's a criminal?
- LOL at Peter's figure skating coach photo session, and Jones telling him it's not a mugshot.
- I sympathize with Elizabeth. I also love watching figure skating, and I'm also a terrible skater.
- I love Mozzie pretending to be Agent Gruetzner. And I love June agreeing to play the receptionist! June is the best. I wish there was more of her on the show.
- Nice shot of Neal's ankle when Peter takes off the anklet.
- So, it looks like the Russians looked Peter up on some sort of Wikipedia-like website. Which the FBI was conveniently creating a page for. What happens if the Russians try to look him up somewhere else?
- Oh, Peter, you should have taken the trick glass.
- I love Neal, Mozzie, and June's con. The chiropractor office as an FBI office, the fake pictures covering up the chiropractor-related stuff, June as the receptionist, Mozzie as Agent Gruetzner. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Mozzie is pretty good at playing a suit. He'd probably be aghast if anyone suggested it, but he doesn't seem to mind playing the role much! And Rebecca is apparently under the impression Neal is an agent, as well. It'll be interesting to see what happens when she learns the truth....
- I love the mad dash to turn the office back to its original setting.
- LOL at drunk!Peter. Though, he takes his alcohol pretty well. I'm not much better than him after one mixed vodka drink, though I'm shorter and don't drink very often.
- And of course, even when he's drunk, Peter is so onto Neal.
- At least Katya is in on things, so Peter doesn't have to completely sell his role as coach. He just has to fool Sergei.
- How interested are Sergei's buddies in watching Katya skate, really? He's really obsessive and controlling, and I can't imagine his friends share his obsession.
- Ooh, Peter can really play hockey.
- Neal is very smooth sneaking upstairs. Love how he hides behind the door. And his save with the phone is great.
- Sergei's men are pretty jittery. If you spend a lot of time near an ice rink, you probably shouldn't be so quick draw your gun when a hockey puck flies nearby.
- Now Neal needs to accompany Peter to the shooting range and be his cheerleader.
- Neal is disappointed he won't get to watch Peter arrest people.
- I like how capable Katya is.
- Mozzie is so right when he talks about Neal being drawn to people who want to rob, arrest, or charge him with insurance fraud. Though, but throwing "arrest" in there, is he implying that Neal's attracted to Peter?
- Mozzie's advice is sound, but since when is Neal good at leaving his heart off his sleeve?
- Neal perks up so much when Rebecca talks about "doing time." LOL. He's found a kindred spirit, even if she did only only spend one night in jail. Rebecca seems a lot more innocent than Neal is, but I think she's pretty capable and savvy.
- Hmm. I'm actually getting intrigued by this Mosconi Codex plot. What's the deal with the thirteenth chapter? Though, I'm surprised that Rebecca didn't notice that their copy of the codex had thirteen chapters, since the first pages of the chapters were gilded. That seems like something people would pick up on. Minor plot hole, maybe? Still, I'm intrigued.

Date: 2013-11-22 08:04 am (UTC)When referring to Neal's attraction, I think Mozzie was indeed referring to Sarah when he said 'arrest.' Sarah was actually almost always (even when jokingly) ready to have Neal arrested for the Raphael. Given, she's wouldn't be the one that does the official arresting, but she'd have certain jurisdiction in the matter.
Besides, it's already canon that Peter's like a Dad to Neal ^_^ Mozzie had him pegged as "paternalistic" in his relationship with Neal, and let's not forget what James got tossed in his face when Neal said he'd found a father-figure elsewhere :3
Sorry about the rambling; it's just that I'm such a hardcore father/son fan, hehe.

Date: 2013-11-22 09:04 am (UTC)I doubt Mozzie would actually imply that Neal's connection to Peter was more than platonic. But while I do like their relationship as a father/son dynamic, I love Peter/Neal, too. Mozzie's comment was too apt not to comment on it.

Date: 2013-11-23 01:16 pm (UTC)I mean she might be, it's totally possible. I'm just a bit surprised that she doesn't recognize "Neal" for "Neal Caffrey, the known art forger and museum thief", since she was working in a museum and all. And some of her interactions with Neal could be intrepreted both ways... But I do like her; she seems smart and intriguing. And Neal's so falling for her...
I want to see what happens next :D
