White Collar 5x10
Jan. 10th, 2014 03:36 amWith all the excitement over fandom_stocking being revealed tonight, I haven't been as focused on reaction to this episode as I otherwise might have been, so I may miss a few things.
Was super excited for this episode, and it didn't disappoint. In some ways, it was pretty much what I was expecting. But there were also some surprises, and even the predictable stuff packed a good punch.
- The opening jogging scene is intense. Especially with that music. It's nice to see Peter's continued turmoil.
- Wow, only two weeks leading up to a new job in DC. Not much notice. I'm curious how this is going to turn out. I have a hard time seeing Peter actually going to DC. And I feel like his hesitation is being set up too much for him to do a 180 and decide to go (even if a lot of that hesitation is due to Neal's actions and Siegel's murder). I don't see how they could move Peter to DC and continue the show. I know there's some concern about whether or not the show is renewed, but even if it wasn't, I still have some trouble seeing the show end on that note. But we'll see, I guess.
- Neal and Mozzie sure do cut it close going to Hagen's building. No way could they get from Neal's apartment to there in...how long did they have left? 11 minutes? Even a half hour was pushing it.
- That building is beautiful. I'd like to know more about what it actually is.
- I like Mozzie and Hagen's interaction a lot.
- It's uncomfortable how tense Peter and Neal are. Though, I have to admit that I like some of their back-and-forth in the authentication scene. And Neal knows how to push Peter's buttons--he annoys Peter so that Peter will let him go back to Hagen. Unfortunately, this ends up fueling Peter's anger toward him.
- I feel for Mozzie, having to paint over the codex. Defacing old books is sad.
- Peter's attitude toward Neal in this ep borders on cruel, and it's tough to watch. I think he's still in defense-mode, and despite his earlier words to Elizabeth, he's clearly not over what happened. I think he's overcompensating, trying to convince himself that he's really ready to move on. I also think he feels bitter toward Neal right now. I can understand that, but I do wonder if it's going a little over the line at this point.
- Jones' attitude is a little more mixed for me. I think his initial warning to Peter at the beginning of the ep is very in-character and reasonable. Jones isn't cold to Neal, but he is a bit more realistic and emotionally-removed than some of the other characters. And he's still being pretty charitable when he starts to offer to take Neal on after Peter leaves. But by the end of the episode, he's much colder toward Neal, which feels a little uncharacteristic to me.
- Neal's shock at Peter's words is perfect.
- Great play by Neal and Mozzie. Mozzie's photographic memory really comes in handy!
- When Mozzie says that he's the codex now, I worried for his safety. I hope Rebecca doesn't realize that he has it memorized and try to kidnap him.
- Hagen is pretty bold, letting himself get arrested. Also, the cigars are a nice callback to the pilot.
- Rebecca is totally suspicious. She's just been kidnapped, and she still wants to know about the codex.
- How does she find that book on Neal's shelf so quickly? How much time has she spent at his apartment?
- Hagen is such a bastard, trying to frame Neal. I'm glad Peter doesn't fall for it too easily.
- It's clear now that Hagen's main motive is simply revenge. I doubt he ever had any intention of freeing Neal from his clutches, regardless of what happened. He was probably always planning to reveal what Neal did, somehow, and get Neal (and possibly Peter) arrested.
- I think both Neal and Peter are beginning to realize that they were both set up by Hagen. Hopefully this will help heal their relationship.
- Though I totally saw the reveal about Rebecca coming, Hagen getting shot was a shock. Wasn't expecting him to get killed.
- The build-up leading into Rebecca's apartment is super creepy. Even though I knew what was coming, I loved watching it unfold. Also, that Cooper building is cool. Wouldn't mind living there.
- I wonder why Hagen was staking out her apartment, though. Siegel, I can understand, but Hagen?
- Rebecca's apartment is even creepier than I expected. The whole place is dedicated to her creepy stalker plot.
- Initially, I was a little confused by why she was practicing forging Hagen's signature for the painting. Obviously, the painting really was Hagen's and he knew about the sale. I'm assuming she added his initials to it so he would be caught. Seems like kind of an elaborate way to get rid of him, though, especially since there was a risk that he would reveal what he'd been up to. It would have been so much less suspicious to just kill him quietly without any witnesses. Killing him in front of the FBI just put Peter and Neal on her trail.
- I wonder how Rebecca got all that intel she has. Some of those documents in the file folders look like they may only be available to law enforcement (her file on Peter has stuff from OPR). Don't know if she could get access to that stuff honestly or not.
- I wonder if she chose the red hair in order to resemble Sara somewhat.
- I have to say, I'm kind of glad that it doesn't look like she's connected to Neal's past. I hope she isn't. There's been so much chaos because of people from Neal's past already. Poor guy doesn't need to be indirectly responsible for this, too.
- I wonder what Rebecca's aim actually is. Could all this really just be for a single diamond? There's got to be more to it than that. Maybe the diamond can be used for something?
- I think Rebecca is shaping up to be my favorite WC villain. She's so...creepy.
- I'm sad the season is coming to an end soon. I hope that in these last two episodes, Peter and Neal start to forgive each other. I want things to end on a good note. And I hope we hear news about whether the show's been renewed or not soon.
