White Collar 5x11
Jan. 16th, 2014 10:13 pmI was so excited for tonight's ep. I thought that next week was the finale, but apparently there are two more episodes, not one. I've been a little confused on the schedule this season.
When I started watching tonight, one of my cats was very interested in watching the screen. White Collar is the last thing she needs to watch--don't need her to learn new ways of stealing and hiding stuff.
- I love that Neal and the FBI turn the tables on Rebecca.
- Peter's comment about Neal's lies catching up to him is a bit harsh. Yes, Neal is a liar, but come on--Rebecca's lies are much more serious. Though, Neal's history does make him a target for people who want to take advantage of his criminal past and skills.
- I hope the FBI checked out the trip-wire in Rebecca's apartment before going in. Because my first thought was that it could be a booby-trap.
- LOL, I love Jones having three OKcupid profiles.
- Don't blame Peter for being upset, but it's not really surprising that Rebecca has a file on Elizabeth. She seems to have a file on everyone even remotely connected to Neal.
- I like Neal telling Rebecca that he wants to play it safe now for her sake--let her think her plan worked a little too well.
- When Neal was trying to keep Rebecca from leaving, I thought he was going to try to propose to her for a moment.
- Nice save from Peter with the menu.
- I like Neal's little speech to Jones about how you can't control your emotions, but you can control how they come across. I was thinking earlier in the episode that Neal is good at doing that. He was able to take his discomfort around Rebecca and explain it as him being upset about her kidnapping. Last week, he released his anxiety about needing to get back to Hagen by lashing out at Peter over their rocky relationship. Neal does this quite a bit--he wears his heart on his sleeve a lot, but a lot of times he manages to disguise what's bothering him.
- I wonder what would have happened between Neal and Rebecca if Neal was willing to overlook the lies and murder. It's an interesting thought. The two of them could make a formidable pair on the run together. But I question whether they could ever really trust each other--Rebecca is too distrusting, and Neal knows how dangerous she can be.
- I wonder if the money and burner phone she brought were for Neal to go on the run with. I mean, if she was planning to go on the run, she would have taken the bag she had hidden in her apartment, right?
- Neal getting shot at by the window took me by surprise. I love how nonchalant Neal is about it afterward, when the EMTs are patching him up.
- I'm hoping to see screencaps of the files taken from Rebecca's apartment soon. So far, they're all pretty amusing. The one of Neal from last week had a Magic Mike press picture of Matt Bomer in it. OPR's name was spelled wrong on Peter's file. This week, Alex's file looks like it has a head shot as the picture.
- I was right! Rebecca did tailor her persona to appeal to Neal!
- Smart of Peter to figure out where Rebecca ditched the gun.
- Of course Rebecca (or Rachel) is actually a rogue MI-5 agent. I have to love it when White Collar ups the ante like this.
- Doesn't seem very smart of Peter to send Neal home. Rebecca knows where he lives, and it'd be an easy place for her to come after him.
- I love Neal and Mozzie eating dinner on the floor. And I love that Mozzie can deal with Neal having an ex with a sniper rifle.
- Neal is pretty gutsy, meeting Rebecca/Rachel. I like that Neal intended for her to "escape." Good to see him get the upper hand. Though, I don't really understand how that worked out. Did he phone the FBI while en route to his meeting with her?
- I wonder if the UK will want Rachel back. I imagine they would. She's got to be wanted by MI-5 for going rogue.
- Rebecca/Rachel is creepier than ever, now. I think she's my favorite villain the show has had.
- I really like that Peter and Neal seem to be back in each other's good graces, now. And I like Peter's comment about having Jones take over as Neal's handler. It was a nice turn-around from last week.
- I'd be surprised if all this really is just about the diamond. I'm half-expecting the diamond to lead to another, bigger discovery (a la the music box and the u-boat).
- I'm curious what's going to happen with this whole moving to DC thing. I really don't believe it's going to happen. However, I remember hearing that the Burkes would get a new house this season, which would fit with a move to DC. But that could just be temporary. I just can't see Peter and Elizabeth really going there.
- When Elizabeth told Peter she had news, at first I was worried she was going to announce she was pregnant.
- The preview for next week is intriguing. I don't really expect Neal's sentence to be commuted, but I like seeing Neal lobby for that to happen. On paper, I think Neal more than deserves it. I don't expect much realism from WC, but one thing that does annoy me occasionally is how the FBI lets him get in dangerous situations so often. I think putting a work-release convict into so many life-threatening situations IRL would be a huge liability and human rights concern. So after everything Neal has done for the FBI, and how clean his official record is, he deserves to be free (plus, in real life he probably would have been released from his initial sentence in less than four years, and consequently probably wouldn't have escaped in the first place). In reality...just since getting out of prison, he's done several things that would get him years added to his sentence if Peter actually reported any of them. But he hasn't, so Neal's record on paper is probably really good aside from his excursion to Cape Verde.
- I'm starting to get nervous for the finale. They always have a big cliffhanger, and I'm starting to wonder what it'll be this time.
