I haven't exactly been following the whole thing going on with Delicious. I didn't have an account when the concern about Yahoo closing it down occurred, so I was concerned for friends who used it, but that was it. Since then, I've fallen in love with the site, and maybe I took for granted that when it fell into its new owner's hands, it basically wouldn't change much.

Then, I signed on today, and what's this? Where are my tags? Seriously, how can I see all my tags? How can I browse through them, or edit them? I think I'm in denial -- I'm having a hard time believing that it's really this bad. I must be missing something, right?

I've been pretty annoyed with some of LJ's attempts at updates and improvements, but at least LJ usually retains most of its basic functions. I don't even know what I'd use Delicious for if it stays like this -- I can't do anything with my tags!

I've gotten set up over on Diigo. Still getting used to it and am not finding it as seamless to use as Delicious was, but I was able to upload my Delicious bookmarks to it, tags and all, and at least I can access my bookmarks a little more easily.

Actually, go here: http://lian.dreamwidth.org/169561.html

There's huge discussion about this in fandom, of course, and it should be pointed out that Diigo censors bookmarks via an algorythym based on 'bad words'. So, it won't work for adult stuff.

AO3 may pick up the ball.

You might want to pop over onto AO3s page and point out the off-site linking. I have no idea if that's in the cards.

Oh, cool. I know they're also going to try and work out a way for anony stuff so the kinkmemes can host there too.

I like AO3 but I'm sort of getting a little worried about the level centrilization in AO3

Well, the use issue is due to their need for increased servers as they increase functionality. I'm pretty sure they're aware of that -- especially since they've been discussing whether they can host videos, which are hogs. That' doesn't bother me so much as the whole cycle of: 'we're free!, we're fandom positive!, we're overwhlemed!, we sell to a random business that decides that fans are freaky and non-profitable!' cycle that happens to so many fandom related 'net businesses.

I didn't mean OTW was doing that, but other organizations etc have had a tendency to do that (Livejournal, for example). There was/is a fuss about a large/the largest LoTR archive being sold to a guy who basically flips websites the way people used to flip houses and similar situations (like, also, delicious), and the various changes that have happened to ff net over time. OTW is very committed to fandom but they're .. what, three years old? What happens when they're 10 years old an have a gazillion users?

The thing is, I didn't even use subscriptions or use Delicious to find new fic that much. I used it mainly for personal organization. So I'm sure that as annoyed as I am, it's much worse for people who are used to actually having it around to find fic or keep up with friends.

I was really proud of my nicely-organized tag bundles, so I'm not happy about losing that at all. The easy tagging was the main reason I fell in love with Delicious.
