I haven't exactly been following the whole thing going on with Delicious. I didn't have an account when the concern about Yahoo closing it down occurred, so I was concerned for friends who used it, but that was it. Since then, I've fallen in love with the site, and maybe I took for granted that when it fell into its new owner's hands, it basically wouldn't change much.
Then, I signed on today, and what's this? Where are my tags? Seriously, how can I see all my tags? How can I browse through them, or edit them? I think I'm in denial -- I'm having a hard time believing that it's really this bad. I must be missing something, right?
I've been pretty annoyed with some of LJ's attempts at updates and improvements, but at least LJ usually retains most of its basic functions. I don't even know what I'd use Delicious for if it stays like this -- I can't do anything with my tags!
I've gotten set up over on Diigo. Still getting used to it and am not finding it as seamless to use as Delicious was, but I was able to upload my Delicious bookmarks to it, tags and all, and at least I can access my bookmarks a little more easily.

AO3 may pick up the ball.

Date: 2011-09-28 03:35 pm (UTC)Yeah, I'm not crazy about the censorship on Diigo. Definitely a reason why I'd prefer not to have to stick with that. Last night, I panicked a bit about not having access to my tags, mainly, so Diigo is helping with that for now.
It'd be cool of AO3 started a system that allowed for bookmarking stuff not on the AO3 site. That limitation is the only reason I haven't used AO3's bookmarking feature much to begin with.

Date: 2011-09-28 09:31 pm (UTC)Yeah, I hear you on the centralization. Also, my concern with AO3 is that it seems like they have issues with site performance sometimes, particularly when there's heavy usage. Maybe it's gotten better, it's hard for me to tell. But I get the impression that the site as it is right now would have a hard time handling a lot of bookmarking activity on top of everything else.

Date: 2011-09-29 02:39 am (UTC)I like that OTW is very committed to fandom, but I share your concerns. I'm not a web developer, but I've helped out on websites enough to know that costs can get prohibitive, especially when it's a labor of love that keeps growing. The idea of getting new features is great, but I know that's not going to be simple or free.
And of course, when things are very centralized on one site, you have a lot more to lose. I don't love juggling multiple accounts on multiple sites, but I'm glad I do.
