This spring, I have caterpillars by my house. A lot of little green ones I don't remember seeing so many of in previous years. I'm very curious what factors contribute to this being the Year of the Caterpillars, because seriously, there have never been that many caterpillars by my current house.
There are a ton of them, and they get everywhere. Yesterday, there was a take-out menu stuck in my mailbox flag, and I had to shake caterpillars out of the folds before I brought it in. Last week, I found one on a coaster on the kitchen table. And when I took the coaster outside to release the caterpillar back into the wild, I couldn't shake it off. Most dangerously, it seems these things hatched on the eve of the house and similar places, so you can't turn around without seeing one of them dangling over your head.
Obviously, they're aliens. I need the Doctor to come and tell me how to prepare myself for the alien moths I'm going to have to deal with eventually.
But seriously, I don't mind caterpillars too much. When I was a kid, I used to like to let them crawl on my hands until I realized I'm a little allergic to some species.
