White Collar episode 4x04
Jul. 31st, 2012 11:13 pmLiked this week's episode okay. I don't think it'll become one of my favorites, but it had its good moments. And it was a nice birthday treat to have a new episode.
My thoughts:
- Little detail: I like how Neal nods and says "It's true" when Mozzie is talking about his bonsai gardening skills. What intimate knowledge of Mozzie's gardening abilities do you have, Neal?
- And it seems to say a lot that he introduces Mozzie to Ellen at all. Ellen represents his past, and I think Neal has spent a long time trying to escape his past.
- I guess between last episode and this one, Neal has become more of a fixture around the evidence warehouse. Boss only puts up token resistance to him coming by, now. It's sweet how he brings Peter lunch.
- Speaking of the boss at the evidence warehouse, all I can think when I see him is that he's probably spent way too long in that division. It's like the monotony has gotten to him and he takes it out on others.
- I love it when Neal snarks about how the FBI treats him. I do have sympathy for Neal -- he could be earning a decent paycheck with the work he does. But I have a little less sympathy considering he has a priceless treasure hidden away somewhere.
- Yay! Sara! I love Sara.
- Now Peter gets to be a consultant. These past two episodes have really knocked Peter down. Now he's almost in Neal's position, give or take. I love Neal asking him if he has a radius now. Snarky Neal is my favorite Neal.
- Peter's improvised aliases leave something to be desired.
- It's neat to see Ellen and Mozzie interact, and find out a little more about Neal's childhood.
- I like the PI. A lot of times, I don't care a whole lot about the "case-of-the-week" characters who show up, but that guy is all right.
- And Mozzie makes a pretty good PI, himself.
- I like it when Neal cooks. He looks good doing it.
- I'm actually surprised the bad guy stood by the deal and just let Neal go at the end. Usually, in stories like this, the bad guy goes against the deal and tries to kill the person, anyway. Making the deal with Neal and then honoring it was surprisingly...honest and sane.
- At the end, the PI guy looks so nonchalant about the dude coming by to kill him. I guess he really is used to danger.
- Yay! Peter's been reinstated. It was surprisingly anticlimactic, too. Nothing in the episode led me to suspect that was going to happen this week.
- I love that they all go to Neal's place to celebrate.
- I wonder if we'll ever learn anything about Sara's sister. It's been brought up a couple times, now....
- I knew something was going to happen to Ellen. I knew it.
- We have to wait two weeks for the next episode?!

Date: 2012-08-01 09:59 pm (UTC)- Evidence Warehouse: I was never quiet sure what we were suppose to thing of the supervisor. Several factors come to mind, he's probably bitter, probably used to people who were sent there on punishment insubordinate agents who don't take the job seriously and think it's beneath them. The rough treatment is probably the way he gets his kicks and is encouraged to test whether the punish agent is taking everything seriously enough. Peter worked out better than he expected, our good old hardworking Peter Burke, which is why I think he allows Neal to hang around. Why do I always try to find meaning in filler obstacle characters?
- With Neal I don't feel bad about FBI paycheck because as Clinton said last season, he's living the dream with the anklet. And yes he has his own funds. But if he didn't complain someone would know something was up.
- I think Neal is currently running for 'work-wife' of the year. Even Sara noticed with Peter and the Sandwich (I always liked the rapport between Peter and Sara). Then with Neal and his toast at the party. My inner fangirl wasn't sure if it was slashy or a 'daddy please love me' moment.
- I always liked Sara, the character. I didn't care as much for Sara/Neal, but I'm glad she can still pop in and out of the show. I keep wondering if Sara's sister is gonna pop-up in his father's story somehow.
- I'm glad Peter's return was anti-climatic. I hate it when it's a big 'will they/ won't they' thing that you know will be an of course they will thing. I think two episodes was the time they decided they could take before people would get too annoyed and seemed realistic enough time wise.
- Ellen. I had hoped I was wrong but I got suspicious when the Marshals were watching her so closely. Though her saying she, Neal and his mother were they were taken away really fast makes me think that Neal's father was set up or was undercover at the time.
Damn you Olympics! I thought they weren't going to preempt for it, but alas.

Date: 2012-08-02 06:52 am (UTC)Oh, I didn't even think of the Olympics as a reason for the delay.
- Neal definitely manages to do all right, even considering he gets money for room and board and has a good deal on his apartment. And of course, Neal can make the most of almost any situation.
- I agree with you regarding Peter's return. And I think the writers may have written themselves into a corner with Peter's reassignment, too. There wasn't really the time or necessity to turn it into a big plotline.
- I'm actually a little surprised they let Ellen stick around for as long as she did. I suspected they'd have something happen to her in order to raise the stakes and put Neal in a more precarious situation.
