Rules:
Pick a fic of mine, any fic (You can find pretty much all my fic on AO3) and I will write at least 100 words of something -- could be prequel, time stamp, missing scene, alternate POV, alternate ending -- based in that fic.
1. First come, first served. Right now, I'm going going to commit to any more than five, but might be able to do more.
2. If you want to suggest what you'd like me to write ("Peter POV" or "what happens next") feel free, but beyond fic choice I won't take prompts as binding.
3. For the sake of variety, I'd rather not write 5 (or 10, or whatever) for the same fic. If I find more than two or three people have made the same choice, I might come back at you for a second choice.

It was mid-morning when Hughes stuck his head inside Peter's office and said, "You know, Peter, you can go home. We can survive for one afternoon."
Peter blinked, trying to force his eyes to look more awake. "I appreciate that, but I'm okay."
He'd already compromised by coming in a few hours late. After leaving Neal at the hospital, he'd gone home, given El an update, and crashed for a few hours. It wasn't enough sleep, but he could function.
"Well," Hughes said, "if you want to cut out early, it's fine by me."
After Hughes left, Peter sat back and looked at the phone. Shouldn't Neal be out of surgery by now? They were supposed to be keeping him informed. He thought about calling Freddy, who was supposed to be keeping watch at the hospital.
"Watching it isn't going to make it ring, Boss."
Peter looked up. Diana was standing in the doorway to his office, holding a file. She had a small smile on her face.
"Worried about Caffrey?" she asked. "If anything was wrong, they'd call you immediately."
"I'm not worried," Peter said. "It's a routine surgery. He'll be fine."
"Uh huh. You were worried."
"Well, you know, a lot's happened recently. The plane, Kate....Neal's had a rough few months."
"He's just lucky his appendix waited until he was out of prison again."
That was true. Neal wouldn't have to recover in a prison infirmary. But somehow, Peter suspected Neal would find a way to complain, anyway.
Diana set her file on Peter's desk. "The search warrant came through on the Pearson insider trading case."
"That's good news. Guess it's time for a little outing to Pearson's office."
So much for going home early.
There was something else on top of the file. As he picked it up, Diana grinned.
"That is for Caffrey. It's been going around the office."
"A get-well card?" He opened it and his eyes widened at the number of names already scribbled inside. He looked up at Diana. "Oh, he's going to be impossible when he sees this."
Before Diana could respond, Peter's cell rang. He immediately picked it up and answered.
"Agent Burke?" the voice on the other end said. "This is Freddy Grant. I wanted to let you know Caffrey's doing okay."
Peter sat up. "He's out of surgery?"
"Yeah. He should be coming out of the anesthetic soon."
"That's great. Can you stick around for a little while longer? I'll send Jones down in a little bit, and I'll be there as soon as I can."
"No problem. I'll be here."
As Peter hung up, he looked up at Diana and said, "Neal's doing fine."
"Like you said, routine surgery."
"Yeah...." He looked down at the card. "Guess I should sign this, huh?" He shook his head. "I bet he'll try to get this thing framed. Hold it over our heads the next time he wants something."
With a smile, he picked up his pen.

As soon as Dom appears, pulling his rolling suitcase behind him, James breaks free from Arthur and runs to greet him.
Phillipa follows, and Arthur hangs back. He puts his hands in his pockets and watches as Dom crouches down and embraces his children. Arthur can barely make out what they're saying. The airport is crowded.
Slowly, Arthur makes his way over to them. Dom is touching Phillipa's hair.
Looking up at Arthur, he says, "You didn't mention she got a new haircut."
"I didn't want you to expect the worst. She cut off half her hair with her craft scissors. I tried to even it out."
Phillipa grins and shakes her chin-length hair. "Doesn't it look good?"
Dom strokes her hair. "It looks great. But honey, playing with scissors isn't a good idea."
Before she can respond, James jumps up and down, tugging on the shoulder of Dom's jacket.
"Did you bring me something, Daddy?" he asks.
"I did. I got both you and your sister something."
"What is it?"
"You'll have to wait till we get home."
The kids groan. Dom stands and, at last, embraces Arthur. He gives him a quick kiss on the lips.
"Thanks for picking me up," Dom says.
"Don't mention it."
During the ride home, Arthur barely gets a word in. The kids want to know everything about Dom's business trip, even though Arthur is certain they neither understand the purpose of the trip (an out-of-state advertising agency is building new offices in California, and has hired Dom's firm to design it. Dom has been at their headquarters for the last few days) or particularly care.
Arthur knows he will get his chance with Dom later.
That night, Arthur is reading in bed when Dom comes in.
"The kids in bed?" Arthur asks.
"Yeah. Finally."
Dom is already in his pajamas. He gets into bed beside Arthur and sidles up to him.
"Thanks for looking after them while I was gone," Dom says. "I hope it wasn't a problem."
"You mean, aside from the emergency haircut? No, it went fine."
"I missed you," Dom says. He kisses Arthur on the side of the mouth, and takes his book from him.
"If you make me lose my place," Arthur says against Dom's mouth, "I'm not going to be happy."
Dom chuckles. He puts the bookmark between the pages Arthur was on, and sets the book aside. He runs his hands up the inside of Arthur's t-shirt, pressing cold fingers against Arthur's back.
Arthur kisses him and then rests his forehead against Dom's. He closes his eyes, taking in the warmth of Dom's body and the feeling of Dom's breath against his cheek.
"It's good to have you home," he says.
